This evening I took Tommy to the supermarket with me. Walking. Luckily I only had a few bits to get because it was certainly a challenge.

On the way there, he couldn't make up his mind whether he wanted to walk or to be carried, which is getting a bit much because he's gotten really heavy all of a sudden.

Throughout the supermarket he kept throwing himself on the floor and screaming when I wouldn't let him go down the particular aisles he wanted (i.e. I don't want half of Elephant to see him make a dash for the bottom alcohol shelf!).

As we left the supermarket he made a dash for the Bob the Builder ride and I don't have the heart to refuse the first time he asks. However, when he got off and decided the Tweenies ride was the way to go, I wasn't going to start emptying more coins into the thing. Which was fine, until I decided that there'd been enough sitting on rides and it was time to go home. Cue more throwing himself to the floor. I'm quite proud of the way I handled myself: no trying to drag him away, no screaming or shouting, just let him get on with it and we were soon off on our way again.

He enjoyed pushing his way through the revolving door at the entrace to our block but there was more throwing himself onto the floor (again) when I wouldn't let him stay and push the button for the lift more than once. And again when I wouldn't let him go up the stairs instead of down. And again when he decided he didn't want to go any further.

Then he decided to roll onto his back and giggle at me. He got up and crawled off, then stood and ran all the way back to our door, giggling. That few steps and the part where he gave Bob the Builder a kiss made the whole thing worth it.
