Tommy had a huge day yesterday. We started off by taking him to get his hair cut (whilst Yuri was taking photos for the salon's website). We tried to sit him on the chair on his own but he was having none of it so I ended up having to sit him on my lap, at which point he decided to be as good as a boy can be when he doesn't particularly want to be messed. It took some effort but the guy cutting his hair was good, and now he has short hair (which was spiked with gel yesterday) that looks so much better than the uncut mop he was sporting beforehand. With any luck this cut will last for another six months so we can avoid the whole episode for as long as possible.
Then we took him off to Baby Praise. From previous experience we know that he's better there when we're not with him so we tend to leave him with one of the leaders. We went off for a coffee and when we got back we snuck in the back of the room and watched him (without him realising we were there). We went up to him when they asked for all the families to get together and he started hugging us both and wouldn't let the three of us separate.
We had lunch in Subway. I like it coz as long as you don't go overboard, it's relatively low in points. Tommy liked his little kiddies roll. I thought he could be adventurous and let him have salad in it. He took the ham out and ate that first. Then he picked at the salad and ate a bit of bread with cheese on it. Before we left I tried to get him to have some of the last bits of bread which he refused - there was nothing left on them. He was quite impressed with his megablocks palm tree toy that he got with his meal - much better than the things McDonalds and Burger King usually give away. He also decided that he wanted to have his drink in a proper cup like Yuri and I. He had to have a lid and a straw with his drink.
We were going to go to the park but it was so cold we headed across to Oxford Street to get us all some gloves (seeing as we cleverly left all of ours at home). We also managed to get some birthday presents for Tommy - some more books and the Incredibles DVD. Yes, we're bad parents, we let him watch TV if he wants.
Whilst Yuri and I were at the Praise Party Tommy went to nursery. He was quite happy to run around and ignore us. By the time we'd registered him he was happily sitting in a police car (much more fun than one of the regular cars) and we thought we'd make a quick exit before he realised we were going. No such luck. He saw us start to leave and said "bye bye" and waved to us. Finally it seems that we're starting to make progress from the regular screaming and clinging until he realises it's all ok. When Yuri picked him up he had a lollipop of wisdom which he'd found in a game. Unfortunately when you start to eat the lollipop of wisdom it becomes very sticky and sticky hands are yuk yuk. Needless to say, the sticky lollipop of wisdom went in the bin when he wasn't looking.
And, the icing on the cake: he slept until nearly 10 this morning!
